I have been having this problem and have tried all of the ideas about reinstalling drivers that I found in these forums, without any luck.
One of the previous replies suggested trying an earlier Windows version in compatibility mode. I tried the JMicron driver from Windows 8.
I did not use compatibility mode because I did not know exactly which device uses the driver. I just downloaded and let it install.

I have the same question This will uninstall and reinstall the driver for the card reader. Sindows can plug the card into another PC to see if it works. If the card reader is stuck with dust, it will lead bad contact between the card and the card reader.
Try cleaning the card reader slot and see if this solves the problem. Verify that the card reader has not been disabled in the BIOS settings. If you use a Mac notebook: Select Hardware, then select USB.
If you use a Mac desktop computer: Select Hardware, then select Card Reader. Look for the Link Speed entry.
